| Francisco Vargas studied theater and communication sciences. He specialized in filmmaking and cinematography. He directed several commercials and short movies. In 2004, he made the documentary Tierra caliente... se mueven los que la mueven. El violín is his first feature film. |

| Don Plutarco, an old violinist with only one hand, his son Genaro and his grandson Lucio lead double lives: they are farmers and musicians, and also members of a guerrilla group, who are planning an armed uprising against the oppression of the government. When the army suddenly seizes his village looking for rebels, they run away. Don Plutarco flees to the mountains with women and children, while Genaro and the other insurgents regroup in the woodland to counterattack. But old Plutarco will carry out his own plan. Taking advantage of his harmless violinist's appereance, he tries to recover the ammunition hidden in the town under siege. Despite the military occupation and plundering, the army captain, delighted with his music, orders Don Plutarco to go back every day to play for him. Guns and music play cat and mouse, while the fate of a wrecked village is at stake. |
