Christy lives with her boyfriend Buddy and her baby Mikey in the basement of her parents´ house. It is a typical situation: they both feel that they are living in a place which is alien to them, Christy because she senses (or imagines) that her parents are constantly watching her and Buddy because he is embarrassed of not having enough money to support his family. Given this dual logic, the slightest remark triggers endless discussions. Present Company, the fourth film directed by Frank V. Ross (who also plays the leading role) confirms that this North American director is unusually talented and has a great capacity to tell stories underlied by the unsaid, continuing with that tradition initiated, perhaps, by John Cassavettes, in which careful planning and improvisation become the same inseparable thing. Present Company is a fresh and mature film, exhausting or liberating, depending on the point of view.
