“We grant the Golden Astor to best film to Cinco días sin Nora, by Mariana Chenillo, film in which all the elements are of such an excellence that it is impossible to separate one from the other.
It deals with its subject with self control, subtlety and sense of humor, without falling into the traps of an easy sentimentalism.”

“Jury’s Special Award: the cast of El cuerno de la abundancia, by Juan Carlos Tabío for the perfect harmony and balance with which it maintains the choreography and music of  great energy always at the border, but never trespassing the limit of the overact and joining heart and intelligence together.”

1st Jury’s Special Mention: Vikingo, by José Celestino Campusano.

“Vikingo, by José Celestino Campusano because of its gut feeling, where harshness and tenderness are mixed together.

2nd Jury’s Special Mention: to Andrey Khrzhanovskiy.

To director Andrey Khrzhanovskiy, for the beauty and poetry of the cinematographic language in his film Room and a half.

Best Latin American Feature Film Award
Ventana Sur Award to make three copies of the film, to the best Latin American Feature film to: La hora de la siesta, by Sofía Mora.
“This jury decides to award La hora de la siesta, by Sofía Mora, because of the sensitiveness and intelligence with which this first work sets us in a perspective of a pre-adolescent world, by the means of the images and the atmosphere with which she builds the story; because of that, we grant the award to best Latin American Feature film.
Mention to Hiroshima, by Pablo Stoll
“We decided to award Hiroshima, by Pablo Stoll giving it a mention because of his defined and concessive treatment, approaching with disrespect to a personal world and revealing a generational situation”.
Best Latin American Short Film Award
Best Latin American Short Film Award: La chirola, by Diego Mondaca.
“This jury decides to award La chirola, by Diego Mondaca, and grant it the best Latin American short film award for its capacity to present a real story through a personal, expressive and universal look, inviting to an enriching reflection”.

SIGNIS Great Award to Best Film from the International Competition: Mother by Bong Joon-ho.

“For being a complete work, which explores what a mother is capable of doing when she is determined to protect her son. The director questions it, and he does it from an ethical place, with no Manichaeism and dogmas. From a formal point of view, it proposes a great richness of expressive resources of many different genres.”

FIPRESCI Award (International Cinematographic Press Federation)
Jury: Isaac León Frías, Kirill Razlogov, Paulo Pécora

FIPRESCI grants International Critics Award to Argentinean film maker José Villafañe for his short film Elvira en el Rio Loro.
The jury of the International Cinematographic Press Federation grants the international critics Award to the film Vikingo, by José Celestino Campusano.

“Because of his good look of a marginal suburban universe where violence and dignity live together.”

Without Frontiers” Annual Award

The Annual Program Without Frontiers to the Best Argentinean Short Films is granted for the fourth time in Mar del Plata International Film Festival. The Director of this Institution, Mr Carlos Martínez, will grant the Official Diploma to “Ana & Mateo” by the director Natural Arpajou, along with the selection Selection Certificate for San Francisco Short Film Festival and Festival du Cinema from Paris, 2010. The Annual Program Without Frontiers agrees with the decision of the Argentinean Competition Jury and grant also a Mention to “Marcela” by Gastón Siriczman, animated short film, that also is selected to the Festivals named before”.



Incentive Award towards a National Cinematographic Industry.

Argentinean Industrial Union granted the “Incentive Award towards a National Cinematographic Industry”, within the framework of the institutional agreement reached with the Cinema and Audiovisual Arts National Institute and the Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers Argentinean Federation.
These awards honor the Producer and the Argentinean Cinematographic Production Company, for the enterprising character and/or activity that creates jobs, national profits and the compromise of reflecting our country identity.

The 1st Award was given by Dr Horacio Martínez –Jury President and Member of the Argentinean Industrial Union Board of Directors - and Mr. Pablo Rovito, President of FAPCA gave the Mention Award, as a Jury member.
The nominated to the Mention Award are: MAGMA CINE SRL, AZPEITIACINE SRL, MAGOYA FILMS, and HABITACION 1520 PRODUCCIONES
The winner is: Magma Cine SRL
The nominated to the First Award are: MC PRODUCCIONES SRL, HADDOCK FILMS and ALEPH MEDIA SA.
The winner is:  MC Producciones SRL
The jury is composed of Dr. Horacio Martínez (Member of the Argentinean Industrial Union Board of Directors and Incentive Award Jury’s President), Héctor A Méndez (UIA), Guillermo Moretti (UIA), Pablo Rovito (FAPCA) and Alberto Urthiague (INCAA).

 

 
 
SHOWCASE SPECIAL
They attended Natalia Oreiro, Mónica Ayos, Adrían Caetano, Daniel Valenzuela, Marcelo Piñeiro y Pablo Echarrio.
Natalia Oreiro, Mónica Ayos, Daniel Valenzuela and the director Adrián Caetano presented "Francia",
film that participate in the International Competition of the 24° edition.
Besides, Pablo Echarri and Marcelo Piñeyro participated of an Q&A with the public after the screening of "Las Viudas de los Jueves" that take part of "Full House" a section of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
The Festival ends November 15th.
 
 
JOSÉ MARTÍNEZ SUÁREZ IS PART OF THE CELEBRITIES WALK



MAR DEL PLATA, Friday 13th November, 2009. Mar del Plata International Film Festival’s president (www.mardelplatafilmfest.com), José Martínez Suárez, put his hands on the Celebrities Walk.

The film maker was very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this traditional tourist walk, and he posed for the photographers and the public that gathered together to see the informal ceremony.

The so called Celebrities Walk is located in front of Hermitage Hotel, Boulevard Marítimo Patricio Peralta Ramos, between Alvear St. and Las Heras St., Mar del Plata. It is the local version of Hollywood Walk of Fame and has become an unavoidable tourist place.

Most of the local and international show celebrities that have been at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival and in the summer season have put their hands in the mentioned walk.
