El patrullero

Highway Patrolman
The hero in Highway Patrolman is an idealist young man, ready “to serve and to protect”, who is fresh out of the police academy in Mexico City and gets a post on a mountain road where corruption is the only respected law. Soon enough, and despite his professional oath, he will start letting certain situations go by and getting involved with a prostitute for whom he steals confiscated drugs from the police storage. But when his best friend and partner dies in a shootout with a drug gang, the patrolman will be forced to do something about it. Somber and austere, and yet relaxed in the way it tells an underworld crime story, the film Cox shot in Mexico poses a mature outside look into the reality of a ruthless territory, half way between cold denunciation and a very trance-like observation.
