Special Screening: «Anomalisa», Charlie Kauffman's Latest Film

The 30° Festival keeps surprising us. Tonight we will have the pleasure of enjoying Anomalisa, Charlie Kaufman’s latest genius, one of the most original and celebrated scriptwriters and filmmakers of the decade.

Kaufman is the brilliant mind behind the scripts of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, both directed by Spike Jonze, and Human Nature and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, directed by Michel Gondry. He also made his directorial debut in 2008 with Synecdoche, New York, starring the unforgettable Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Now he comes back with a personal project that started out as a theatre play and that, thanks to Kickstarter platform, became Charlie Kaufman’s latest masterpiece. Anomalisa tells the story of Michael Stone, a motivational writer and orator who thinks his life is empty until he meets a very special woman. The director goes back to the human mind in order to analyze the existence of an ordinary and depressed man, only this time he does so with stop-motion animation –frame by frame-, a new challenge in his career, made with animator Duke Johnson.

The film –internationally acclaimed- started being made with a budget of 200.000 dollars but, thanks to Kickstarter, he doubled it, and made the film last 90 minutes instead of 40.

Anomalisa features the voices of British actor David Thewlis in the leading role, Jennifer Jason Leigh and the extraordinary Tom Noonan, playing the rest of the characters. An entire tour de forcé. A must for all fans of Kaufman and of the best independent cinema.
