«My Golden Days», by Arnaud Desplechin, opens the 30º Festival

The 30° Festival is only a few days away. Mar del Plata welcomes you with the best program and this year’s opening film is absolutely enticing. A little sample of this year’s vast and attractive program.

One of the most controversial filmmakers in French cinema in the past few years, Arnaud Desplechin arrives at the festival with his latest film: My Golden Days.

An artist who goes beyond the audiovisual genres, Desplechin portrays in his filmography a great number of exquisite characters. In his new film, the protagonist, Paul Dedalus –played by Mathieu Amalric, his usual collaborator- is a professor of anthropology accused of espionage. However, this is only an excuse for the character to remember his youth back in the 80s, going back to his first love, his first friendships, his teenage adventures, the relationship with his mother and a journey to the Soviet Union that would change his life.

A portrayal of Europe during the last years of the "Iron Curtain”, My Golden Days has Desplechin’s authorial style, regarding characters and their relationships. The director’s fans will celebrate the encounter with the protagonists of the director’s second film, Comment je me suis disputé... (ma vie sexuelle) -1996-, in this pseudo sequel full of love and nostalgia.

When the red carpet is ready at the Teatro Auditorium, on the night of October 30th, we will begin celebrating the 61st anniversary of the great film party and we will be able to enjoy the latest work of an amazing contemporary artist. French cinema –the first cinema- will be present at the 30° Edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. Welcome to you all.
