A call is open to participate in the second edition of the Latin Arab Co-Production Forum, organized by the Non-Governmental Organization for the Promotion of Cultural Diversity Creciente Cine Fértil and which will take place within the Mar del Plata International Film Festival between November 21st and November 25th, 2017.
Aimed at projects in development and post-production stages; any project which brings forward a potential co-production including at least one Latin American country and one Arab country (see list of eligible countries in Rules and Regulations document) is welcome to apply, noting that they may also incorporate countries from other regions as co-producers.
The selected projects in development stage shall have the opportunity to take part in Pitching Sessions (LatinArab Pitch Competition) and those in their more advanced stages may show their creation during a Works in Progress session(Works in Progress Competition). Apart from these activities, all participant projects to the Forum can partake in business rounds, where they will meet professionals interested in participating in their projects.
International juries will select the Best Documentary Pitch, which will receive the Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Award, consisting in the signing of a contract with the network worth USD$15,000; the Best Fiction Pitch, awarded the Haddock Films - The language lab prize worth AR$50,000 (AR$25,000 cash and $25,000 for the translation of dossiers); and the Best Work in Progress, which will receive the Lahaye-Pomeranec Award consisting of postproduction services worth USD$16,000 and the SZ Traducciones Award, worth the subtitling to English or Spanish of the finished feature. At the same time, UNTREF MEDIA will select a project from each category (Documentary Pitch, Fiction Pitch, WIP) to whom it will provide with graphic and web design.
The projects for the Forum selection must be sent via e-mail, attaching a PDF file containing all the material requested in Article 6 of the Rules and Regulations to email@example.com with the subject "ENTRY TO LATIN ARAB CO-PRODUCTION FORUM PROJECT (TITLE)” before 11:59 p.m. (GMT-3), October 2nd, 2017.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
ARTICLE 1º The second Latin Arab Co-Production Forum is an activity organized by the Non-Governmental Organization for the Promotion of Cultural Diversity Creciente Cine Fértil to take place within the Mar del Plata International Film Festival with the objective of boosting the development of cinematographic projects between Latin America and the Arab countries and of strengthening the co-production and distribution interregional networks.
ARTICLE 2º The second Latin Arab Co-Production Forum will be held between November 21st and November 25th, 2017, and will consist of public pitching sessions for projects in the development stage, a Works in Progress (WIP) competition, business rounds and specialized conferences.
ARTICLE 3º Entry to the Forum is free of charge and open to full-length film projects in the development and post production stages from Latin America and the Arab countries, be they fiction, documentaries, animations, or experimental works. The projects must meet the following requirements:
● Minimum duration of 60 minutes. Journalistic or informative audiovisual reports will not be considered as non-fiction projects.
● Latin American projects must have a direct link with the Arab countries or vice versa: involvement of a Latin American producer, shooting locations, actors in the leading roles or subject in the script.
● Latin American countries: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.
● Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Comoro Islands, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Syria,Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Yemen, and Djibouti.
ARTICLE 4º In order to submit a project to the Forum, participants must send, exclusively by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, a PDF document with all the material requested in Article 6° with the subject "ENTRY TO LATIN ARAB CO-PRODUCTION FORUM PROJECT (TITLE)”.
ARTICLE 5º The Pre-Selection Committee will recommend to a Selection Committee (made up essentially of the Forum’s Artistic Direction) those projects deemed to respond to the objectives of forum and of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival and that show outstanding and renewing artistic and production values.
ARTICLE 6º The presentation to be submitted in PDF format will be written in Spanish, English, or French and must include:
6.1) Title of the project
6.2) Director’s and producer’s name and surname
6.3) Project’s contact information (telephone number, e-mail address, majority and minority country of origin in case of already having a co-producer)
6.4) Technical information (genre, runtime, format, locations, etc.)
6.5) Storyline (no longer than 200 words)
6.6) Synopsis (no longer than 500 words)
6.7) Treatment (no longer than 2000 words) –pitching only
6.8) Letter of intent from the director about his/her project (no longer than 300 words)
6.9) Textual description by the producer of the general production design (no longer than 500 words) –pitching only
6.10) Budget summary and financial plan –pitching only
6.11) Bio-filmography of director and producer
6.12) Links to watch previous works both from the director and the producer online
6.13) Link to Work in Progress (10 to 15 min.) –WIP only
6.14) A scan of the signed rules and regulations
ARTICLE 7º Projects linked with any member of the organization of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, or with people who are part of INCAA’s staff, or the Latin Arab Co-Production Forum and the International Audiovisual Forum of Argentina Pre-selection and Selection Committee will not be allowed to participate of the Forum.
ARTICLE 8º The Forum will recognize the person who signs this application form as the sole representative for all aspects related to the participation of the project in the Co-Production Forum and as the sole responsible before other companies or individuals involved in the project.
ARTICLE 9ºThe decision made regarding the selection of projects will be final.
ARTICLE 10º The invitation made to each project will remain strictly confidential between the direction of the Latin Arab Co-Production Forum and the producers or representatives of the project until the Forum decides to make an official announcement in this regard.
ARTICLE 11º The Forum and the Mar del Plata International Film Festival offer four nights’ accommodation for the selected candidates.
ARTICLE 12º A jury made up of three renowned figures from the national and international film industry will be appointed by the Forum to choose the Best LatinArab Documentary Pitch and the Best LatinArab Fiction Pitch and another jury made up of three other members will choose the Best Work in Progress.
ARTICLE 13º The Co-Production Forum will present the winners of its competitions with the following awards:
13.1) Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Award to the Best Documentary Pitch, which consists of the signing of a contract with the network worth USD$15,000
13.2) Haddock Films - The language lab Award to the Best Fiction Pitch, which consists of AR$50,000 divided into AR$25,00 cash and AR$25,000 worth of translation services for dossiers.
13.3) Lahaye-Pomeranec to the Best Work in Progress, which will receive post production services worth $16,000 and the SZ Traducciones Award to the Best Work in Progress, worth the subtitling to English or Spanish of the finished project. The winner shall have until 12/12/2018 to benefit from these awards.
13.4) Three (3) UNTREF MEDIA awards, one per category, to whom the sponsor will provide with graphic and web design services.
ARTICLE 14º Once the project is finished, the producers of the winning projects must include the Latin Arab Co-Production Forum logotype in the final cut’s credits, as well as in any promotional or exhibition material. Said logotype is available in various languages on the Forum’s official website.
ARTICLE 15º Any query raising from the interpretation of these Rules and Regulations will be dealt with by the Latin Arab Co-Production Forum Direction.
ARTICLE 16º In the event of discrepancy in the interpretation of these Rules and Regulations, the Spanish version will apply.
ARTICLE 17º The sole participation in the Latin Arab Co-Production Forum implies authorization from the Participants to publish and promote images, pictures and participants’ names and surnames on the web site and other means of communication belonging to the Forum, the Mar del Plata International Film Festival and INCAA.
