As part of the 32º Mar del Plata International Film Festival, LoboLab opens call for entries for its third edition for feature projects in development stage. The registration is free for projects from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia,Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Israel and Morocco. This initiative, which its main goal is to promote the cinematography through international coproduction, willselect 16 projects to participate in the meetings, which will take place from November 22nd to 25th, in Mar del Plata.
Selected projects will participate in a meeting’s agenda with leading representatives of the international film industry.
Registration is free and it will be open from August 22nd until September 15th.
A prize of $100,000 (Argentine Pesos) will be awarded to the best feature film project.
INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION MEETINGS - LOBOLAB
From the 22ndto the 25th of November, 2017
Article 1. The NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CINEMA AND AUDIOVISUAL ARTS within the framework of the 32nd MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will organize the International Co-production Encounters for Projects of Fiction Feature Film in Development - LOBOLAB.
Article 2. LOBOLAB will be held from 22ndto 25th November, 2017 and will include "one-on-one" meetings between directors and producers of feature films in development with potential producing partners coming from different regions of the world.
Article 3. The call for participants will open on August 22nd, 2017, which will be published on the website of the MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, www.mardelplatafilmfest.com, and the registration will close September 15th of the current year.
Article 4. Registration to LOBOLAB is free and it is open to fiction feature film projects in development, which should have a minimum of twenty percent (20%) of funding assured. The projects must not have been shot prior to the Meetings.
Since the main objective is to promote Argentine Film Industry through international co-production, the call for LOBOLAB 2017 is aimed to feature film projects in development from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Italy, Mexico, Germany, France, Colombia, Spain, Israel, Morocco, Uruguay, Venezuela, Canada, Bolivia, Cuba, Portugal and Puerto Rico.
LOBOLAB organization reserves to itself the right to summon projects from invited countries at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
Article 5. Presenting producers must have worked as majority producers of at least ONE (1) feature film. The project may be the director's first film.
Article 6. In order to submit a project for the selection of LOBOLAB it is mandatory to send, exclusively by email to email@example.com, a PDF document that should include all the materials required as in ARTICLE 8 of this regulation, under the subject "REGISTRATION LOBOLAB PROJECT (TITLE OF THE PROJECT) ".
Article 7. The Short-listing Committee will recommend to a Selection Committee, composed by the Artistic Direction of the Festival, the projects that its members understand to be in accordance with the aims of LOBOLAB and the MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, and which at the same time are emblematic of excellent and renewing artistic and production values.
Article 8. The presentation of the document mentioned in ARTICLE 6 must be in Spanish, without exception, and include the following items:
8.1) Title of the project.
8.2) Name of director and producer.
8.3) Contact details of the project (telephone, mail, country of majority and minority origin if already had a co-producer).
8.4) Technical information (genre, duration, filming format).
8.5) Synopsis (maximum 1 page).
8.6) Treatment (between 8 and 10 pages).
8.7) Letter of intention (LOI) of the director about his project (Maximum 1 page).
8.8.) Text description of the producer on the general production design (Maximum 1 page).
8.9) Financial planning for the different stages (pre-production, shooting and launch / distribution).
8.10) Detailed economic plan, which should account for the twenty percent (20%) of the assured financing and its respective supporting documentation.
8.11) Schedule of the project until its final cut.
8.12) Director’s and producer’s filmic biodata
8.13) Online viewing links of the director’s and producer's previous work.
Article 9. Cannot participate in the Meetings those projects that are directly linked to a member of the organization of the MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, or which may belong to people who are part of the staff of the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CINEMA AND AUDIOVISUAL ARTS, or the Selection Committee of LOBOLAB and/or Festival Selection; in any of the above mentioned situations such presentation may be challenged. It is understood as directly linked all persons who maintain a working relationship and/or kinship until SECOND (2nd) consanguineous degree. The above-mentioned prohibition except: a) those persons who only had an employment relationship as academic instructor in the National School of Experimentation and Film Making (ENERC), and b) those persons who are trainers or tutors of competitions organized by the INCAA, as long as they are not linked to the announcement of the Meetings.
Article 10. If a project is selected to participate in LOBOLAB, the presenter (director or producer) will be notified and additional material will be requested. The participant must send such materials before the deadline that will be communicated by the organization. These will be used for the Catalog, Web Page, press, publicity and dissemination within the framework of LOBOLAB and the MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.
Article 11. Once a project has been selected, it cannot be withdrawn from LOBOLAB.
Article 12. The Meetings will be held in Spanish (with Spanish-speaking guests) or in English.
Article 13. A jury composed of three famous national and international film makers will meet with the representatives of each short-listed project and later deliberate and choose the best project.
Article 14. LOBOLAB coordinators, in agreement with the Festival Artistic Direction, will choose the members of the jury. LOBOLAB coordinators or its representative may be present during the deliberation of the jury, but they will not be part of the same nor have any votes. The decisions of the jury will be taken by majority. No one who has any type of interest in the production or exploitation of a film in this contest can be a jury. The members of the jury are firmly committed not to publicly express their opinions regarding the projects submitted for their consideration before the official prize award.
Article 15. The jury will award a prize of PESOS CIEN MIL ($ 100,000.-) to the winning project for the best feature film in development.
Article 16. The producers of the LOBOLAB winning project should include their logo in the initial credits of the film, as well as in the final ones and in any diffusion material or exhibition of such project. All those selected to participate in LOBOLAB, should include the logo of LOBOLAB and the MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL in the final credits. These logos will be provided by the Organization.
Article 17.The sole participation in LOBOLAB implies on the part of the Participants the authorization for the publication and dissemination of the images, photos, names, surnames of the participants, on the Website and in other media of LOBOLAB, the MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL and the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CINEMA AND AUDIOVISUAL ARTS.
Article 18. The participation in LOBOLAB implies the acceptance of these Regulations by the interested parties.
