Best Feature Film - «Fausto» by Andrea Bussmann

Over the paradisiacal landscapes of the coast of Oaxaca, various stories fill conversations and the air with mystery: supernatural apparitions, animals that maintain their telepathic abilities after they have been dissected, duplicated tombs, the typical presence of a demonic force, and even the use of an astronomical phenomenon for colonization purposes. The references to the German legend of the title are multiple and oblique (ranging from plot-based reminiscence to a symphony by Mahler), but among the majestic images and the captivating atmospheres, Andrea Bussmann’s debut film develops a subtle and continuous game with the literary experience: the blurred lines between reality and fiction, the tales of diverse origins, united by their common searches, and fiction as a tool for domination.
