From comic-book superhero to real-life superhero: Chadwick Boseman takes off the Black Panther suit to play Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American US Supreme Court judge. After fifteen years devoted mainly to television series, Reginald Hudlin also returns to film leaving behind comedies like Boomerang and House Party to get serious in this thrilling mix between biopic and courtroom drama. And in order to do so he chooses a key case from the beginning of Marshall’s career, when he was already a popular civil attorney. Also shining outside his comedy roles is Josh Gad as Sam Friedman, a young, cautious attorney who will be of great use to Marshall, trying to find out the truth in a case in which an African American man is accused of abusing a high-class woman.
