Coming home is a topic filmmakers are very fond of, and now gets a new twist by this Turkish director who continues his exploration of family relationships and the clash between different generations and their cultures. The film focuses on a young man returning to his home town from university and how he adapts to his familiar but strange surroundings. He comes into conflict with his family, especially his father, and experiences friction with his old friends, who treat him warily. Ceylan tells the story over three naturally flowing hours during which conversations range from family troubles to literature, religion and politics. This is a movie of connections and misunderstandings, gazes, silences and the clash between expectations and reality... who we think we are and who we are in actuality.
