Best Film - «Historia de lo oculto» by Cristian Ponce
The first feature by Cristian Ponce, a web series (Un año sin televisión and the spectacular animated show The Kirlian Frequency) and short film (Breve Historia en el Planeta) veteran, imagines an alternative Buenos Aires in the ‘80s where the Government, led by a businessman, is about to collapse due to multiple corruption allegations and conspiracy theories that involve black magic. A TV show in the style of Hora Clave called 60 Minutes Before Midnight, which is about to begin its final broadcast following its cancellation, promises to shed light on many of those things. Ponce knows how to perfectly distribute the information, and hands it out to us little by little, and the end result is fascinating and at times terrifying. But what’s most enjoyable is the way in which he toys with that Argentina that is somewhat detached from ours, in which the Malvinas Islands are a local tourist destination and The Exorcist is starred by Andrea del Boca.
