The 22nd edition of the Jeonju International Film Festival will take place from Thursday, April 29 to Saturday, May 8, and once again futher strengthen the ties that unite the annual Asian exhibition with that of Mar del Plata. On this occasion, Jeonju will publish the book What Will Become of the Cinema? (¿Qué será del cine?), in a version with texts by new guest contributors to complement those included in the original version published by the Argentine festival.

With respect to this, Sung Moon, programmer of the South Korean festival, stated: “JEONJU IFF has a long friendship with Mar del Plata IFF and, in keeping with our collaboration, we expand upon Mar del Plata’s impressive initiative, bringing together the thoughts of various people of the film industry. We share these concerns, uncertain of the future. However, we still have hope in sharing ideas with those who keep exploring the new cinematographic territory, fearlessly facing these challenges.”

¿What Will Become of the Future? Postcards for the Future is a collective work, a kind of collage of images and texts that imagine possible horizons, recall film shoots and revisit films. Composed of more than seventy contributions from friends and colleagues from different parts of the world, this volume is, by its own collective nature, an expansive work whose interest lies more in the uncertainty of a community than in its certainties, faced with an unparalleled moment in the history of the cinematographic medium, in order to think about what is to come.

Among them, as part of the International Competition, we include the films Esquirlas (Natalia Garayalde) and Como el cielo después de llover (Mercedes Gaviria).

Further, the Frontline section - which delves into films with social themes - will feature the participation of Las Ranas (Edgardo Castro) and Vicenta (Darío Doria), and in the Expanded Cinema section - dedicated to experimental cinema - there are No existen 36 maneras de mostrar cómo un hombre se sube a un caballo (Nicolás Zukerfeld) and Homenaje a Philip Henry Gosse (Pablo Weber).

Finally, as part of the outdoor screenings (Cinemafest), there will be a screening of En compañía (Ada Frontini), one of the projects that participated in the En Tránsito (Work-in-Progress) competition in last year’s festival.
