After the success of its first edition, the LongShots online film festival returns with a new format. On this occasion, the BBC is forming an alliance of thirteen film festivals from all over the world to create a presentation of feature films from a diversity of origins.

The films that compete in LongShots are taken from a list of 100 films that represent various nations, from which BBC Reel selected thirteen finalists, one from each festival, to participate in this year’s selection.

The Mar del Plata International Film Festival is participating in this opportunity with the presentation of Soldier, by Manuel Abramovich, which participated in the Argentine Competition of the 32nd edition of the Festival. The film narrates the life of a 19-year-old man who decided to join the army: the transformation of a teenager from a small town into an adult full of uncertainties and contradictions.

Soldier and the rest of the selected films can be seen for free online all over the Argentine territory – and anywhere in the world – through the platform (click here), starting August 18.

Along with the Audience Award, voted on by the BBC audience, a jury of four international figures from the film industry will decide upon the winner of the festival’s top prize. The juries is made up of the acclaimed Indian actress and director, Nandita Das; the Oscar nominated Polish director, Anna Zameck; the Ethiopian-Mexican, Jessica Besir; and the U.S. Vietnamese director, Bao Naguyen.

Last year, LongShots received more than 1.5 million viewings on the BBC Reel page, catapulting these emerging talents and hidden gems from the film industry into the homes of cinephiles from all over the world.
