“A film without borders, without gender or genre; a trans film.” That is the way its director defines it, and it’s true. Anhell69 is the shattered narrative of a city without limits; a collage in which sexuality, violence, religion, family, drugs, the night life and friendship as the only refuge coexist. But it is also a dystopian tale of B-movie ghosts. And an affectionate portrait that acts as a conjuring before death. Anhell69 is pondered, constructed and deconstructed in front of the audience’s eyes, cracking the limits between documentary and fiction. Because in order to capture the experiences in queer Medellín, new forms are needed. In a centrifuge movement, Theo Montoya jumps from the intimacy of the first-person to the collective in order to give voice to a generation that assumes itself as having no future. And it finds, in cinema, the strength to resist and to invent a way out.
