Model Neighborhood
Silvia visits Moscow in the late ‘60s, with the Soviet regime in all its splendor. There, she becomes acquainted with the complexes of structuralist design that were built in order to house working-class families. Upon her return to Buenos Aires, she discovers that the buildings erected by the El Hogar Obrero cooperative have the same collectivist spirit. Embracing the ideal of socialism, Silvia leaves everything behind, even her husband and children, in order to move to one of these apartments and write a novel in which she plans to depict its more than 200 homeowners. Shortly after, she travels to Italy and her track becomes lost forever. Half a century later, her niece finds her manuscripts and decides to fulfill, through film, what remained unfinished in literature. Combining archive footage with scenes from its local inhabitants, Model Neighborhood shapes a log in which the familiar and the political merge in a hypnotic period piece.
