The voices rise, each one in their own language, from different parts of Peru: in their readings, they invoke the dead and rekindle the fire of the struggles of the past. The wounds become flesh in those bodies of the present, in those who are fighting new battles today and in those who are reluctant to abandon those that have lasted for centuries. The testimonials can come from 60 years ago or from yesterday. The injustices of which the texts give an account of are deeply rooted in their land and in their time, but the montage reveals a sinister continuity. And at the same time, it affirms a hope: that of joining in the fight, that of lending a voice to those who have been silenced. To the question of whether a denunciatory cinema is still possible today and how, After the Dust responds by weaving together a fabric of diverse voices that remind us that memory is always an action, and a collective action
