Godard Cinema
Jean-Luc Godard’s work was a process of constant reinvention that spanned almost seven decades and more than 120 films. Is it possible to address it in a documentary, respecting its themes and obsessions, and exploring the profound reasons for each mutation? Through interviews and archive images, Cyril Leuthy constructs a chronological review: from the filmmaker's childhood and his years as a critic for the magazine Cahiers du Cinéma until his return to the fiction at the beginning of the 80s, his audiovisual reflection of more than four hours on the history of cinema (Histoire(s) du cinéma, 1989-1998) and his seclusion in Rolle, Switzerland, during the 21st century. In between, the success of his first feature film, Breathless, the intense 1960s and his romance with Anna Karina, the Maoist period and his experimentations with the television format together with Anne-Marie Miéville.
