< Back to listLa Danza de Los Mirlos
Moyobamba, the capital of the San Martín region in northern Peru. In the heat of the jungle, a group of young people gather at the Rodríguez Grández's place for an event that will change Latin American music history—the birth of Los Mirlos and Amazonian cumbia. Through a large amount of archive footage –from the first shows at local parties in the 1960s to their recent and successful tours around Europe–, La danza de Los Mirlos chronicles the career of one of the genres pioneering bands but also traces a genealogy of the tropical and popular music of an entire continent. Without leaving out the usual disputes among its members, the eccentric adventures and the veneration of an entire people, the documentary by Álvaro Luque becomes as unquenchable as the melody of the international anthem of cumbia it takes its name from.
