In 1920s’ Ireland, Pádraic has something baffling and devastating happen to him—suddenly, and without an explanation, his lifelong friend Colm refuses to speak to him. Obsessed with understanding what happened and meding it, despite Colm maintaining that he simply does not like him anymore and wants to cease wasting any more time listening to him, Pádriac insists. But Colm isn’t willing to give in, and when he threatens to cut off a finger every time Pádraic bothers him again, the conflict starts to become quite dark and irradiates the entire town. In The Banshees of Inisherin, Martin McDonagh brings Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson together once more in order to create a story that is as comical as it is dark, and the portrait of a microcosm with a life of its own that, if we pay some attention, can also become a metaphor.
