Bittersweet Rain
A piece of news shakes the life of Bruno, a 15-year-old teenager who lives with his mother and brother in a small town in Brazil—the doctors tell him that he’s irreversibly losing his eyesight. He doesn’t know at what exact moment his definitive blindness will come, the only thing that’s certain is that it will happen soon. As he prepares to face a distressing future, Bruno tries to deal with concerns typical of a kid his age—he talks and dances with his younger brother, plays soccer, attends parties and beefs up a slightly romantic friendship with a classmate. With the uncertainties of all coming-of-age narratives that, in this case, are amplified by the impending blindness, Bittersweet Rain —Haroldo Borges’ first solo outing— turns the tragic fate of its protagonist into a tale of collective learning.
