OPENING FILM

Even before making his first film, Godard was already making cinema. In the late 1950s, the filmmaker had discovered, through a voracious cinephilia and from the pages of Cahiers du Cinéma, how that language worked. Faithful to his disruptive drive, which accompanied him until his last decision, Godard was convinced that he had to decipher each of the proceedings in order to break them apart. Pulverizing, once and for all, the linearity of traditional film, Breathless was conceived. Godard’s first film is vital, modern and sad but, at the end of the day, it is a cop film about a thief who steals a car to go from Marseille to Paris and, on his way, kills an officer and drags a young woman to his adventure. A work that marked the beginning of one of the most influential cinematic careers.
