At first glance, the new film by Jonás Trueba seems to be the simplest, most immediate proposal on his path towards introducing stories of the ups and downs, romance and heartbreak of middle-aged characters. Perhaps it’s because of its briefness, its diligence or, as it tends to happen, because of how recognizable the feelings, doubts and fears of the characters can be for the audience. But this deceitfully minimal film is much more than this—Trueba manages to concentrate his talent to the fullest in order to reflect about everyday drifts. Four characters (two couples) seem to be enough, as they reunite, listen to a concert, walk, play pingpong and share a sense of strangeness that this post-pandemic world seems to have exacerbated
