Haunted by the ghosts of a terrible past she has tried to forget, Carmen sees herself forced to return from exile when she finds out her father is about to die. At first, her return to Buenos Aires, doesn’t seem to move her—Carmen has survived at the expense of building an insurmountable armor and seems only capable of feeling something indirectly, projecting herself on the erotic desire of others. But, unexpectedly, her return catapults a series of events that seem dictated by fate and confirm that, one way or another, the past always comes back. Ambitious and provocative, Fito Páez’s first film tackles the horrors of the last civic-military dictatorship from its consequences, with Cecilia Roth in the flesh as the protagonist and center of a tortuous conflict that achieves the dimensions of a true tragedy.
