11th International Contest of Critical Studies on Argentine Cinema “Domingo Di Núbila”

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS AND INTRO
With the aim of promoting theoretical studies on Argentine cinema, the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, sponsored by the Argentine Association of Film and Audiovisual Studies, announces an open call to researchers, teachers, critics, filmmakers, film students and the general public to participate in the 11th International Contest of Critical Film Studies on Argentine Cinema "Domingo Di Núbila".

REGULATIONS
The 38th Edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, with the auspices of the Argentine Association of Film and Audiovisual Studies, is organizing the International Contest of Critical Film Studies on Argentine Cinema "Domingo Di Núbila".

Objective
Encourage theoretical studies on various problematics related to Argentine cinema and audiovisual arts and recognize its growing relevance and autonomy as a contemporary disciplinary field.

Participants
Open to researchers, teachers, critics, filmmakers, film students and the general public from all over the world.
Members of the jury, staff of the Argentine National Institute of Film and Audiovisual Arts and / or members of the current Board of Directors of the Argentine Association of Film and Audiovisual Studies, as well as people related to those previously mentioned whether through terms of employment, membership in a corporation and / or close blood relatives (mothers, fathers, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings or children) are ineligible to participate and any such applications will be automatically rejected. In the event that there is any type of relationship that occurs because the applicant was unaware of the composition of the jury, the jury must refrain from evaluating the participant.

Theme
“Cinema and audiovisual arts in Argentina: aesthetics and genres, historiographic problems, authors and styles, technology and media.”
This edition of the contest raises a broad and inclusive thematic line with the objective of promoting the participation of researchers, students, teachers and critics from multiple disciplinary fields, that in various academic authorities, and institutional and independent spaces produce knowledge on issues related to Argentine cinema and audiovisual arts. With this premise the essays that address, from an original perspective and theoretically grounded, themes related to cinema and audiovisual Argentines, either in their different historical stages, in their problems of order conceptual or in its contemporary modes of expression and development. With this aim, we welcome essays that address, from an original and theoretically grounded perspective, topics related to Argentine cinema and audiovisual arts, either in their different historical stages, in their conceptual problems or in their contemporary modes of expression and development.

Application
Participants must send a digital copy in PDF of their work, in Spanish, on A4 size paper, 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman 12 font, with a minimum length of 40 pages and a maximum of 50, with notes and bibliography included. Essays must have an abstract of no more than one page in length.

The text must be sent as an attachment in an email that has as Subject the word "Concurso" and in the body of the email the following personal data of the participants:

• First and last name
• Pen name
• DNI or Passport number
• Telephone number
• Cell phone number

The attached file should have as the top only the following information:

• Title of the essay
• Pen name

The texts must be unpublished and not committed to any publication or publishing company. The Festival reserves the right to publish the essays.
The authors of the winning essays will cede all rights of their work to the Festival.
An author may present ONE (1) essay.
One of the representatives of the Jury will inform the authorities of the Argentine Association of Film and Audiovisual Studies as to the results of the Contest, and they will then resend them to the Festival organizers for their notification.

Jury
The Argentine Association of Film and Audiovisual Studies was in charge of selecting the members of the Jury, respecting gender equality and federalism. The institution had designate, to that end, to Belén Ciancio, Lucas Martinelli and María Valdez, recognized researchers from the field.
Its decision will be final and will be announced on the day of the press conference for the official presentation of the Festival's programming.

The criteria for evaluation will be the following:
a) Originality of subject.
b) Depth and rigor of the analytical approach.
c) Research and use of sources.
d) Writing style and formal organization of the text.

Awards
FIVE (5) works will be selected for publication in the Festival web page and in a special section of the e-zine Imagofagia, an indexed academic publication of the Argentine Association of Film and Audiovisual Studies. For the publication of Imagofagia, the winning essays must be adjusted to the standards of style and length of the magazine (http://www.asaeca.org/imagofagia/index.php/imagofagia) and meet the requirements requested by the editorial team.

One award of ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS ($ 100.000.-) for the winning essay, and TWO (2) Honorable Mentions (Diplomas) will be awarded.
Sending the work via email for participation in the contest implies acceptance of these regulations by the author.
