FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA'S "MEGALÓPOLIS" TO SCREEN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ARGENTINA AT THE MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
FIVE INTERNATIONAL FILMS WHICH ARE BEING CONSIDERED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OSCARS ARE PART OF THIS YEAR’S PROGRAM
The Mar del Plata International Film Festival revealed part of the international programming that can be enjoyed from November 21 to December 1 in the festival’s Panorama section, which offers a broad view of Argentine and world cinema. The films participating in the five competitions will be announced at the Gaumont cinema in Buenos Aires on November 12 at 7:30 p.m. At this presentation, the names of the members of the official juries will also be revealed.
"Megalopolis", the film that Francis Ford Coppola dreamed of for four decades, will be shown for the first time in Argentina with a screening for 1,000 people at the Auditorium, followed by two more showings. The film features Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito and Jon Voight in its cast. Greg Kwedar's "Sing Sing", starring Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, will also be shown. The US offerings, mostly independent films, also include Nathan Silver's comedy "Between the Temples," starring Jason Schwartzmann and Carol Kane, William Goldenberg's sports drama "Unstoppable," Jennifer Lopez's new film, which also stars Shawn Hatosy and Bobby Cannavale, and Aaron Schimberg's "A Different Man," a drama about identity starring Sebastian Stan alongside British actor Adam Pearson.
In addition to the already announced "Emilia Perez," which will represent France at the Oscars, four other films competing for the golden statuette will be part of the program. These are "Sujo" by Fernanda Valadez and Astrid Rondero, chosen by Mexico, "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" by the Iranian Mohammad Rasoulof, which is going for Germany, the Japanese "Cloud" by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and "Vermiglio" by Maura Delpero, who won the Argentine competition at the Mar del Plata Festival in 2019, and who is seeking a nomination for Italy this year.
From the world of French cinema, "Le deuxieme acte" by Quentin Dupieux, with Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon and Louis Garrel, will be screened. From Portuguese cinema, there will be "Grand Tour" by Miguel Gomes. From Spain, "Volvereis" by Jonás Trueba will be screened, from India, "All We Imagine as Light" by Payal Kapadia and "Dear Jassi" by Tarsem and from South Korea, "By the Stream" by Hong Sang-soo.
Outside the framework of the Latin American competition, the Brazilian films "Inexplicabel" by Fabricio Bittar and "Ainda Não é Amanhã" by Milena Times will be screened.
