The Festival took part in Argentina’s most important International Tourism Fair (FIT) in “La Rural”
Jorge Stamadianos, one of the co-directors of the Film Festival, held a publid conversation with Bernardo Martín, President of the Mar del Plata Department of Tourism and Culture. During the conversation, he announced that the Festival will have - for the first time in its history - a guest country that will bring great titles from its national filmography. In addition, he confirmed the opening film, France’s candidate for this year’s Oscars.
From November 21 to December 1, 2024, the Mar del Plata Festival will celebrate its 70th anniversary, highlighting the best of Argentine and international cinema. The opening ceremony will be on November 21 and the closing, where the winners will be announced, on November 30.
The festival will have five main competitions: the International Competition, Latin American Feature Films and Short Films, Argentine Feature Films and Short Films, “Altered States” (experimental cinema) and Work-in-Progress, which will support projects in development. In addition, there will be a number of special sections including Panorama, with national and international titles, and spaces dedicated to children, horror films and new authors.
To celebrate its history, emblematic titles that premiered in Mar del Plata will be screened and a tribute will be paid to important Argentine films that are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
Founded in 1954, it is the most important film festival in Latin America and has been a key platform for Argentine cinema.
Gabriel Lerman and Jorge Stamadianos are this year’s artistic directors, both of whom bring their extensive experience in the industry to the festival. Traditionally organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts, the 39th annual festival will be a joint effort between INCAA and the Municipality of General Pueyrredón.
