Antuca, a young Andean woman who works as a housekeeper, decides to return to her farming community. A decade has passed since, against her will, she was taken to Lima to serve in the home of the colonel, the brother of her “godmother.” From that day on. she has harbored the hope of returning. The reunion with her community and her teenage love will enrich her, but she will painfully realize that she no longer belongs to that world. She returns to the city, and with the help of her fellow housekeepers, builds her mat hut on the sandbanks of Lima, realizing that she must put down new roots.
