A History of Love and War
Pepe Sánchez Campo is in the prime of his life. His corrupt real estate business is booming, and he’s about to marry the love of his life, the aristocratic Constanza. However, Pepe’s good fortune is about to end due to the outbreak of war. His construction site is taken over by a peasant guerrilla group demanding justice. Loosely based on the misfortune that befell the former emperors Maximilian and Carlota of Habsburg in Mexico, the film dramatizes the imagined downfall of centuries of colonialism, embodied in a lovestruck criminal businessman whose fate is altered by the eruption of political violence and human passions.
